GIB Receives the ZEWO Quality Seal: A Recognition of Our Commitment to Excellence

September 1, 2026

We are proud to share that the Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB) has earned the ZEWO Quality Seal, Switzerland's most respected certification for charitable organisations, held by only a select number of Swiss non-profits

Over the years, GIB has continued to strengthen the way we work, ensuring our governance, financial management, and organisational practices evolve alongside our mission. Receiving the ZEWO Quality Seal marks an important milestone in that journey.

Awarded by Switzerland's leading certification body for charitable organisations, the ZEWO Quality Seal follows an independent review, which examined our governance, finances, and transparency. This neutral and impartial confirmation shows how GIB operates the way a trustworthy organisation should: openly, responsibly, and with proper oversight at every level.

This recognition reflects the progress we have made over several years. We have updated our statutes, adopted Swiss GAAP FER accounting standards, strengthened Board governance, and enhanced conflict-of-interest and disclosure policies. Together, these improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to operating with transparency, integrity and accountability, while continuing to strengthen the governance that underpins our mission.

Reflecting on this milestone, our CEO, Louis Downing, said,

"Receiving ZEWO certification is a significant milestone for the Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB). It gives our stakeholders independent assurance that we follow best practices for non-profit management and governance. It also shows that GIB is trustworthy and transparent, which is a key part of our commitment to maximising our impact. Our vision is a world in which infrastructure enables a safe, equitable, and thriving society on a healthy planet, and we invite partners from around the world to join us in growing this impact together."

For our partners, donors, and supporters, the certification provides independent assurance that GIB is governed responsibly and transparently. It reinforces confidence in our organisation and reflects the sustained effort that has gone into building the systems and practices that support our work. Institutions such as the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation increasingly look for ZEWO certification when assessing potential partners, and meeting that standard shows how closely GIB's practices now align with what the sector's most trusted funders expect. It also places GIB alongside a wider circle of well-established Swiss charitable organisations that meet the same rigorous standard, a genuine achievement for a foundation our size.

While the ZEWO Quality Seal recognises the progress we have made, it also marks the beginning of the next phase of our journey. The standards ZEWO holds us to are already shaping how we think about continuous improvement: refining our practices, sharpening our governance, and building on what we've put in place. As GIB grows, that discipline will stay central to how we work and how we help advance sustainable, resilient, and regenerative infrastructure around the world.
