The SOTERIA project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme, aims to promote insurance solutions in Europe that protect organisations and businesses from climate change, positively impacting citizens, the scientific community, and vulnerable sectors.
The project aims to document, test and validate innovative insurance solutions and best practices addressing different risks and needs across 8 European regions. Iterative versions of insurance products that focus on preventative measures are tested through various stages of development to gather insights that guide their growth.
A central objective is the exploration of enabling frameworks that support public sector modernisation, paving the way for the development of inclusive and affordable insurance schemes.
GIB serves as the task lead for the SOTERIA Climate Resilience Dialogues, a series designed to deepen understanding of the climate protection gap and emphasise the critical role of insurance in building resilience, compensating for losses, and supporting risk transfer mechanisms. Leveraging our expertise in stakeholder management and communications, we work with our partners to facilitate interactive discussions among various stakeholders to foster a collaborative framework.
Focusing on pressing climate resilience challenges, these dialogues aim to inform EU and national policy measures by leveraging project outputs to influence climate adaptation policies, sustainable finance initiatives, and the implementation of new policies and uncover SOTERIA’s potential contributions to the UNFCCC Adaptation Goal and Loss and Damages framework.
